 My first exposure to Sunny was in Dawn's Book from the Portrait collection. Jessi is always going on and on about how "you wouldn't know I was black unless I told you because you would just assume I was white". I've always wondered why the writers made it a big deal that Mallory was white and Jessi was black, yet they were still best friends; but it wasn't all "omg gasp!" when it came to Stacy and Claudia being different races and still best friends. Does this have anything to do with when the series started?

I read Keep Out, Claudia! for the second time last week. When I read it the first time I was eight or nine and I remember reading it and thinking it was a little vague, the way they say "prejudice" instead of racism.
